Limitations to Free Speech

This first episode of Though Farming co-hosted with David McLellan puts the spotlight on freedom of speech. Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of free societies. But the pro-Hamas and pro-Palestinian protests all around us are pushing against the limits of free expression. Is there such a thing as absolute freedom of expression? and if there are limits, where do we find the lines that limit this fundamental freedom?

Note to readers: A bad connection chopped a fraction of the conversation around the 20min mark. The conversation there is about what some of the US Founding Fathers thought about political parties. The missing sentences are about how Madison understood the problem of what he perceivedas factions, thought the solution was not to ban factions but to make sure there would be sufficient liberty for factions to multiply and serve as a counterbalance.

Thought Farming
Thought Farming addresses issues of politics and culture in Canada from a Prairie perspective. We talk about critical issues in our lives as citizens. These will include questions related to policy and politics, economics and markets, culture and history, technology and faith, and whatever we find in the in-betweens. We will have open and frank discussions and we'll occasionally slay the odd sacred bovine here and there.
The podcast has three feature components:
1. Conversations: a space to discuss events and ideas with leading thinkers
2. Dissections: recordings of recently published op-ed pieces
3. Explorations: a space for quick reactions to leading issues.
